Jaigad Port to be ready by March 2012
The Jaigad port project in Maharashtra is expected to be operational by the first quarter of next fiscal. The work on the multipurpose port was started in June last year. The project is funded on a 70:30 debt:equity ratio and the debt portion has also already been tied up. The promoters have already invested around Rs. 200 Crore. The Maharashtra Maritime Board is likely to pick up 11 per cent stake in the project.
The port will have a draught of 10m which will enable it to handle 40000 to 50000 DWT ships. Initially the port plans to handle bulk cargo such as food grains, sugar and bauxite. |
